LICA

LICA: The Association of Dutch Higher Education Professionals is a network of representatives of Dutch universities of applied sciences. The higher education system of the Netherlands is binary, consisting of comprehensive universities and universities of the applied sciences. LICA’s members are involved in student recruitment, outreach strategies and partnerships with high schools and VET-institutions (vocational education and training), PR and marketing, orientation and open houses, admissions and enrollment, transfers from high schools and institutes, summer courses and bridge programs, advising and mentoring, remediation and retention. As a professional network, LICA offers its members an array of forums and events to discuss challenges and critical issues, to exchange experience and best practices and to share information. In the last few years, LICA has organized numerous seminars, conferences, and meetings on actual developments, on new policy initiatives and legislative changes, on ‘how to start networks,’ ‘organize projects with other institutes,’ on international students and languages of instruction, and on cultural adaptation.

During the week of 12-18 of October, 2009, a large group (of approximately 25 members) of LICA’s members will be visiting Toledo to participate in the ATLANTIS Project’s Second International Symposium, SCHE in the U.S. and Europe: Educational Partnerships for Economic and Community Development. In addition, our guests aim to gain experience and knowledge of the ways US institutions of higher education attract, enroll and retain their students. In a week, they will visit different institutions of higher education and high schools, participate in the Symposium and learn about Toledo and Ohio as much as possible.
